LDS Sacrament Meeting Christmas Program. When the bishop called me to be the ward choir director in September I nearly fell off my chair in fits of laughter. If there was ever a person unqualified for a job it was me for this one. My musical abilities stop shortly after being able to read music. I have put in my time as a primary chorister but that was all fun and games, nothing technical. My head spun in circles for about 5 days as I tried to wrap my head around the idea that I was being asked to help with the Christmas program. Honestly, I was perfectly FINE with writing the program, I wasn't too fine with leading a choir. My gross lack of experience led to conclude that the program needed to be very basic with MUCH participation from the congregation. Here is what I came up with; it turned out well, the length was perfect and everyone was involved. Most of the information in this program came from: Seeing Christmas Through New Eyes, by Dieter F. Uchtdorf. The Gifts of Christmas, by Henry B. Eyring. Because He Came, Thomas S. Monson. One person narrated the whole program and we invited the Primary kids to the front BEFORE the program began, they returned to their seats after their song was over. Happy new year http:// ward christmas party ideas. Ward Christmas Party Ideas. Saturday, October 5, 2013. I recently stumbled on a GREAT Ward Christmas Party. It was for the Polar Express, and I'm linking directly to the blog with the blogger's permission. Best Ward Christmas Party Ever. So by disbanding the ward activities committee, our ward was left at having the Elder's Quorum in charge. Of course they are great guys, but they are men. When our bishop's wife heard. As our thoughts shift from pilgrims and falling leaves to Santa Clause and snowmen we are faced with the ever consuming responsibility of keeping Christ in our Christmas celebrations. We, like the Grinch who stole Christmas, must learn for ourselves that “Maybe Christmas, doesn’t come from a store; Maybe Christmas. Means a little bit more”. With the house all decorated and tree beautifully trimmed we are easily captivated by the wonder and excitement; but in the still of the night with the tree glowing softly, one ornament stands out from the others as a feeling of reverence radiates from the space where it rests. The nativity scene, hastily arranged in the thick of the decorating frenzy tells a story of another Christmas at another time. May we keep the true meaning of Christmas in our hearts as we contemplate the purpose for the peaceful cr. Consider this young woman, something of a child herself, here bearing her first baby might have wished her mother, or an aunt, or a sister, or a friend to be near her through the labor. Surely the birth of a son such as this should command the aid and attention of every midwife in Judea! We all might wish that someone could have held her hand, cooled her brow, and when the ordeal was over, given her rest in crisp, cool linen. No matter the humble circumstances of this event, no doubt Mary held her precious child near and looked at him in wonder as she considered the role he would play in saving the sons and daughters of the world. As she kissed his cheek she must have felt the sacred testimony that her baby boy was the Lord of all creation. Choir: Mary’s Lullaby (We sang this straight out of the primary song book. Nothing fancy)(Luke 2: 1- 5)1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from C. Surely Joseph must have wept at her silent courage. As he cleared away the dung and debris, searched to find the cleanest straw and fought to hold the animals back, might he have felt pain in knowing there could not be a more despicable circumstance in which a child could be born. But Joseph did not complain. Who was this strong, silent, almost unknown man who must have been more worthy than any other mortal man to be the guiding foster father of the living Son of God? Joseph, the guardian of the Savior of the world, it was He who taught the Savior the books of the law. It was Joseph who, in the seclusion of the shop, helped the child begin to understand who he was and ultimately what he was to become. Congregation: When Joseph Went to Bethlehem (2 . And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you goodtidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 1. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Congregation: It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (3 min)Shepherds would soon arrive and later, wise men from the east. The Wise Men presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but these are not the gifts Jesus asks of us. From the treasure of our hearts Jesus asks that we give of ourselves: . Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long- suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.(John 3: 1. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. May we sing out in praise and joy for the gift of the lord has been given! Joy to the World – Congregation (2- 3 min)I do hope this program helps someone who finds themself in the position I was in this year!

It would seem reasonable to establish just how effective this training has been if only to help justify the budget. Evaluation techniques are not new, indeed the most influential early work on evaluation was performed in the USA during the 1. Tyler. Probably the most important aspect of Ralph W Tyler’s work was the realisation of the importance of objectives in designing an effective school curriculum. This early methodology can be defined as the scientific/experimental approach. The model emphasised the importance of knowing the educational standards of the individuals in the control group before the new education initiative took place and then determining the change that had taken place by measuring the difference in attainment after the educational intervention was completed. In other words the aim was to determine the effectiveness of the training by scientific means on the level of performance of the individual. Although there have been some critics of this methodology it has proved to be valuable in that organisations have been able to quantify the relationship between their corporate objectives (often expressed as key performance indicators (KPIs) today) and the training aims and objectives. The main criticism of the scientific/experimental approach is that the methodology is unable to take into account the unexpected or unintentional learning that can take place within a dynamic and changing learning environment. Those readers who can remember reading about the original, and now famous Hawthorne experiments to determine the effects of illumination levels on production held at the Western Electric plant in Cicero, Illinois in the 1. How to Measure Management Effectiveness. HOW TO EVALUATE TRAINING PROGRAMS Warren Bobrow Warren Bobrow, Ph.D.,specializes in employee selection, manager assessment. When evaluating the effectiveness of a corporate compliance program. Gathering the feedback needed to improve and be accountable for program effectiveness; It's. How to evaluate the programme4 4.1 Planning the evaluation..121 4.1.1.Aims.of. National Research Council showed that human behaviour is indeed difficult to quantify exactly. Nevertheless the greater attention that was given to training methodology and in particular the effectiveness of management development during the 1. As we will see this approach can be divided into two main schools; the narrow focused approach being attributed to Donald L Kirkpatrick in the early 1. P. Warr et al (The Evaluation of Management Training) known as the CIRO model. The CIRO model looked at context evaluation, input evaluation, reaction evaluation and outcome evaluation. Donald L Kirkpatrick’s . The four stages are: -Reaction. Learning Behaviour Results Level 1 The first stage is about the reaction of the trainee to the training. This sort of measurement is concerned with how the trainees . The usual course feedback sheets are an example of the Kirkpatrick level 1 evaluation. Most organisations do not do any more than this type of measurement and analysis. The drawback is that we do not really know if the trainee has actually learnt anything. What really seems to be being asked of the trainee was how ! We will now look at the next level of evaluation concerned with Learning. Level 2 Things can be improved by using a pre- test and post- test and comparing the results. The questions need to be objective and closely related to the course objectives (more about that later). In this way we can determine if the training actually delivered knowledge and this was understood by the trainees at the time. An organisation that does this can be confident that the trainee has actually learnt something at that time. Why do I make the point that we have to make the measurement and consider the learning at a certain time? Well because we do not know if the learning has had time to be internalised and become . All too often trainees (and delegates at conferences for example) will have difficulty remembering what was in the course or seminar they attended a few days later let alone months later. There are various techniques that we can employ to improve the level of recall but basically ! Level 3. This is concerned with . By that we mean the measurable change in an individual as a result of their attendance on the training course. This is, in my opinion, the least we should be expecting from any training program. After all what is the point of spending money and using resources if the training does not effect some measurable change in the behaviour of the trainee? Level 4. Kirkpatrick is now concerned with the training to determine if it has actually been translated into tangible benefits to the organisation. Quite simply has productivity and or quality been improved? Have the number of accidents or incidents been reduced? Has plant availability and or plant utilisation been improved? Has the morale of the workforce changed for the better? These are metrics which really have an impact on the . We have to ask ourselves is this not the real reason for training? Training has to make a real difference in performance and effectiveness; this is tied closely to competence. Training has be proven to deliver results and be cost effective. It might sound simple but it is not for most organisations. The reason is that most do not have in place any system for measuring the improvement in competence of the individual; let alone a systematic approach to identifying the most effective means of assisting the individual to becoming competent. Cost effective training. If we all now accept that the majority of organisations carry out training to change the behaviour of the workforce and improve their performance in the workplace we also must accept that this cannot be achieved without a clear plan and strategy. This rational approach to training and development is best demonstrated by the Competence Profile(s) or Competence Map(s) for a particular job(s) in the organisation(s). If the approach in constructing these has been methodical we will have at our disposal a database of learning objectives. I call these TCOs or terminal competence objectives. These TCOs must relate to the needs of the organisation and will contain the . In this way we are able to ensure that the training is appropriate to the individual at that time in their development and truly meets both their needs and those of the organisation. If we use these TCOs to develop the training program (whether it is a classroom based course or a workshop activity) we will have a course . A goal can be considered to be something that the organisation strives to achieve through the meeting of specific objectives. Achieving the individual objectives in a methodical and logical way effectively maps out the process towards the eventual achievement of the goal. If we look at an important KPI for any organisation it might be expressed as . If a company with over a 1,0. LTI then clearly their HSE systems must be working. This can be translated into real company benefits and major savings to the organisation. There are many tangible benefits and other benefits which are very important but more difficult to quantify. Benefits can include: - Better productivity Lower insurance premiums Improved morale Enhanced reputation Reduced stress No legal costs No compensation cases Lower staff turnover Employer of choice Input, Process and Output. I have presented an argument for mapping out the competences required to perform a job and to linking these competences to the delivery of training interventions. In effect this means that the strategic goals of the organisation must be cascaded down to team level within the organisations. In time new competences will be required for team members as the industry . Some leading companies recognised this change model and one (IBM) introduced the IPO paradigm. The concern being is training delivering the desired results within the organisation? The IPO model was designed to confront and solve problem. In this model a distinction is made between output (short term benefits) and outcomes (benefits which are longer term but actually determine the availability of future training resources). The following quote is particularly relevant here . That is the course content could be poor or inappropriate but was delivered by a good instructor who managed the group well and they actually ! Instead I have suggested that we owe it to the organisation to identify the competences that are really required by the individual to do his or her job well. These competences are the skills and underpinning knowledge which should be part of the company database and accessible through its Competence Management System. The training intervention has to be designed to meet the needs of the organisation by satisfying the competence development requirements of the individual. By achieving this goal we have a rational and justifiable case for training and we are able to prove that training really does deliver tangible benefits, not least to the . In this global marketplace it is essential to maintain a competitive advantage through the workforce; this is best achieved by an effective Performance Management system underpinned by a robust Competence Management System such as Sentrico. Imprisoned as a foreigner espousing a dangerous sect, Peter was finally brought out of confinement to be executed in the persecution of the Christians blamed by Nero for the fire of 6. AD. Christianity would not become more central to the faith of Roman citizens until the arrival of Constantine in 3. Incredibly, Maxentius relinquished his secure advantage within Rome to flee north and Constantine routed his force at Milvian Bridge, where his rival and many of the latter's troops drowned in the Tiber. Yet, Constantine never made Christianity the official religion and was a cold- hearted despot. Enjoying the fruits of this Pax Romana, the Christian faith was not only able to spread across the Empire, but also to gain the trophies of secular power. The early days of the papacy thus experienced corruption, bribery and bloodfeuds, as rival candidates fought to attain the trappings of power. In persuading the latter, the Pope presented a document of great antiquity - the 'Donation of Constantine'. This was claimed to be the deed whereby the late emperor, in return for being baptised in the faith, acknowledged the rule of the papal throne across the empire. An obvious fake due to inaccuracies in the text, it wouldn't be proven as such till 1. Rome continued to proclaim its authenticity for centuries. Having secured temporal power the early papacy became embroiled in depravity. While John XII, also in the tenth century, was caught cheating with a married woman by her husband and killed in flagrante delicto with a hammer blow to the back of the head. Gregory would enlist a whole school of forgers to provide him with documents for any occasion, but by extending the principle of excommunication to emperors and kings in 1. Inocent III would put whole nations under papal interdict, such as King John's England between the years 1. Papal states. From the outset his reign was embroiled in scandal, being suspected of having tricked his predecessor into resigning. In one of the strangest episodes in papal history, faced with months of fruitless discussion to nominate a papal successor in 1. Boniface had hoped to be elected as a compromise candidate. The hermit accepted, becoming Celestine V, and opting to establish his reign in Naples to avoid the licentiousness of Rome. Incorporated into the newly- appointed Pope's wooden cell at his palace, Boniface had a speaking tube installed through which he pretended to be the voice of the Holy Spirit calling for Celestine to step down. Once his own election was achieved in December 1. Boniface had his predecessor locked up where he died of starvation and neglect. However, his lasting legacy was the consequences unleashed by his composing of the papal bull, 'Unam Sanctam' in 1. Pope. After seven successive Avignon Popes, in 1. Pope returned to the auspices of the Vatican, but with an unruly mob securing the election of an Italian cardinal wo refused to blindly succumb to French wishes, a schism occurred with the election of a French alternative. A hastily convened church council in Pisa in 1. Pope, but all three now claimed infallibility and excommunicated their rivals. The schism was at an end, though not the excesses of the papacy. With the election of Rodrigo Borgia as Alexander VI in 1. Rumoured to have had incestuous relations with his daughter, Borgia sired and brought up in public ten illegitimate children. Having murdered his own brother and his sister's lover and husband, Cesare would poison himself and his father, causing the most horrible demise to the latter in 1. De Rosa provides a concise history of papal suppression of any challenge to its theological interpretation or from other religions. In doing so, he subscribes to the view that the traditional early Christian belief in the sanctity of human life was abandoned in the face of the militaristic competition of Islam. Perhaps the bloodiest chapter was written when Innocent III called for the eradication of the Cathars in his Bull Of Anathema in 1. Their principal crime being not showing the Pope due deference, the Cathars were routed and wiped out by the Crusaders at Beziers in July 1. The most tyrannical inquisitor would be Torquemada, confessor to Queen Isabella, who from his appointment in 1. Ironically, De Rosa reveals that this executioner in the name of the true church was himself descended from a Jewish grandmother. These edicts banned all Jews from administration and commerce, and deprived them of ownership of land. Moreover, the Crusades routed their first victims, ahead of arrival in the Holy Land, in the slaughter of Jews within Christendom itself. Another controversial issue raised in the book concerns the papacy's claim to infallibility. Pink Floyd - 1- st Press Collection (1. DSVLoad. Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk.
